Pune: Noble Hospital and Research Centre has announced the launch of its Centre of Excellence for Obesity, Metabolic Diseases and Advanced Bariatric Sciences, a comprehensive facility dedicated to the scientific and multidisciplinary management of obesity and related disorders.
The new initiative aims to advance obesity treatment through integrated medical care, advanced diagnostics, and surgical expertise.
The centre was inaugurated by Naval Kishor Ram, Commissioner of the Pune Municipal Corporation, in the presence of Dileep Mane, Chairman and Managing Director of Noble Hospitals and Research Centre; Divij Mane, Deputy Managing Director; and Sanjay Pathare, Group Executive Officer.
The launch comes at a time when obesity is increasingly being recognized globally as a medical condition rather than merely a lifestyle issue.
With obesity now formally classified as a disease under international medical coding systems (ICD), structured approaches to obesity treatment – including medical therapies and advanced bariatric procedures – are gaining importance.
Speaking at the event, Naval Kishor Ram, Commissioner of Pune Municipal Corporation, said that there is a lack of awareness among people regarding Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
“We inculcate the importance of early and proper diagnosis,” he said. Commending the initiative, he added that through this centre, Noble Hospital has taken an important step to address the root causes of obesity and strengthen obesity treatment awareness in society.

Individuals seeking medical advice for obesity will be guided by a specialized obesity management group comprising a multidisciplinary team ranging from physicians and surgeons to psychologists.
The centre will deliver both non-surgical and surgical obesity treatment solutions aligned with international medical standards.
The multidisciplinary team includes:
- Bariatric medicine physicians
- Bariatric surgeons
- Cosmetic and plastic surgeons
- Obesity and metabolic health nutritionists
- Bariatric physiotherapists
- Obesity educators
- Dedicated counsellors
This integrated model aims to ensure that every patient undergoing obesity treatment receives personalized and comprehensive care under one roof.
Advanced Diagnostics and Modern Bariatric Technology
The Centre of Excellence will offer a range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic options designed to enhance obesity treatment outcomes. These include:
- Advanced body composition analysis
- DEXA scan unit
- Modern bariatric surgery infrastructure including robotics
- Non-invasive weight-loss procedures such as the Allurion endoscopic gastric balloon
The hospital has also introduced novel injectable medical therapies for weight loss, supported by its experienced bariatric physician team.
In addition, the centre will provide body contouring services through surgical and non-surgical procedures designed to remove excess sagging skin and stubborn fat deposits after weight loss.
An advanced bariatric operating table has also been installed to enhance patient safety during surgical obesity treatment procedures.

Expert Multidisciplinary Medical Team
The centre brings together a team of specialists dedicated to delivering comprehensive obesity treatment and metabolic care.
The team includes:
- Reema Kashiva – Bariatric Physician
- Parmeshwar Bambrule – Bariatric Surgeon
- Ravi Swaminathan – Plastic Surgeon
- Sarika Satav – Bariatric Clinical Nutritionist
- Akshay Pawar – Dietician
- Reshma Kangude – Lifestyle Educator
- Bhupendra Gupta – Physiotherapist
- Suhas Khaire – Endocrinologist
- Sheetal Harpale – Clinical Psychologist
Dr. Reema Kashiva, Programme Director – Centre of Excellence for Obesity, Metabolic Diseases and Advanced Bariatric Sciences at Noble Hospitals, said that untreated obesity is associated with several serious health complications.
“Untreated obesity is associated with a lot of health complications, including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and metabolic disorders and many other diseases. Early and scientific intervention can significantly reduce these risks and improve quality of life,” she said while highlighting the importance of structured obesity treatment.
Addressing Obesity at Its Roots
According to the team at the centre, the focus is on addressing obesity at its root through evidence-based obesity treatment strategies.
“For years, we were treating the complications of obesity rather than the disease itself. With the recognition of obesity as a medical condition and the availability of effective therapies, it is now possible to intervene early and prevent associated complications. People need guidance at every stage of weight management. Scientific, supervised and team-based management of obesity is the need of the hour,” the team stated.
The experts also noted that apprehensions about the side effects of medications often prevent patients from seeking obesity treatment, but these risks can be managed effectively under medical supervision.
They emphasized that individuals should consider the long-term benefits of scientifically guided weight loss compared to the health risks of untreated obesity.

Creating Public Awareness About Obesity
The centre also aims to increase awareness about obesity as a treatable disease and encourage individuals with a Body Mass Index (BMI) above 30 – or above 27 with comorbid conditions – to seek timely medical consultation and obesity treatment.
Dr. Sanjay Pathare, Group Executive Officer, Noble Hospitals and Research Centre, said, “Obesity today is increasingly driven by poor dietary habits, over-nutrition, sedentary lifestyles and stress not just in adults but also in small children and early and effective obesity management can significantly reduce the risk of multiple chronic diseases.”
Dr. Divij Mane, Deputy Managing Director, Noble Hospitals, explained that surgery is not required for every patient undergoing obesity treatment.
“Not every obese patient needs surgery. In a center of excellence, precise BMI, BCA and comorbidity assessment is done. Non-surgical options are primarily considered. Risks such as Type 2 Diabetes, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, hypertension and heart disease are proactively evaluated and appropriate treatment is made available under one roof. Our aim is to ensure the right care plan from the right team of experts reaches every individual, from the treatment phase to follow-up care to ensure long term well-being,” he said.
Strengthening Advanced Metabolic Healthcare
With the launch of the Centre of Excellence, Noble Hospitals aims to strengthen its commitment to advanced metabolic care and preventive healthcare for patients in Pune and surrounding regions.
Dr. Dileep Mane, Chairman and Managing Director of Noble Hospitals, said, “Obesity is a complex multi-faceted disease hence, instead of multiple standalone-consults, when a dedicated team of experts jointly provides an integrated care plan tailored to each individual’s needs, you get effective and more sustainable outcomes.”
“Through this Centre for Obesity, Metabolic Diseases and Advanced Bariatric Sciences, we aim to redefine obesity care with integrated treatment, advanced technology and sustained patient support,” he added.
